Best Foreign Employer Award, yet again for Anglo Eastern
Anglo Eastern Ship Management has won the Best Employer Award yet again. Capt. R. S. Anand says, “This award speaks of our commitment to Indian seafarers, who are our backbone and main contribution to our growth.” The Marine World’s S. Sadanand met Capt. Anand after the award and presents here the excitement and feelings of Anglo Eastern on its achievement.

TMW: How does it feel on being conferred yet again, “Best Foreign Employer of Indian Seafarers Award,” during the National Maritime Day Celebrations?

Capt.Anand: It feels good. It is an achievement that we have received this award for the fifth year in a row. It is an award that every organization would like to have. Basically we are growing from strength to strength. It’s the teamwork and the group expansion that has led to this achievement. The percentage increase of the Indian seafarers is higher than the previous year. There is a general manpower shortage no doubt, which is being suffered by every organization in this industry. With our reputation we have been successful in adding a substantial number of Indian seafarers and hence these kinds of achievements, during lean times is no mean achievement. Our team here has been very sincere in their efforts to make this possible.

TMW: What is the significance of this award to you and to your organization?

Capt.Anand: The significance is that besides being the best we are also the largest. This award speaks of our commitment to Indian seafarers, who are our backbone and main contribution to our growth.

TMW:How would you describe your largest position?

Capt.Anand: By largest, I refer to the number of slots for Indian seafarers. At this time we have about 3200 Indian seafarers on board and we have over 180 ships with Indian manpower.

TMW: What are the other achievements of Anglo Eastern Group?

Capt.Anand: Being a ship management company, Anglo Eastern is one of the largest in the world. We have all types of ships under our management and the expertise is phenomenal to handle all types of ships and take care of them as per the latest regulations and as per the owners’ satisfaction. Besides, in Anglo eastern group we have a training facility, which is also one of the best in India. Apart from that we also have Anglo Eastern Technical services that basically supervises new buildings. Anglo Eastern are ship managers. The services we provide are technical services, ship management, training and off course manning for our parent company Anglo Eastern Ship Management Ltd., Hongkong.

TMW: What are the efforts made by your organization to live up to its current standards and expectations?

Capt.Anand: We have had substantial growth in the first quarter of this year. Expectations are that we continue to grow at the same pace if not more. It is basically a trust that ship owners have in us as ship managers. And I would commend our shore-based employees for helping build this trust. I feel high achievements are only possible as a result of mutual cooperation amongst seafarers and shore-based executives.

TMW: What is unique about your organization?

Capt.Anand: The most unique thing about our organization is that we give a lot of priority to running safe ships. Our seafarers are well trained to run safe ships with highest standards of professionalism. Our clients feel secure of our abilities to provide best services.
