68 Future Superintendents Pass Out from SIMS
Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies, state of the art Maritime Training Institute equipped with world-class facilities held a grand passing out function for its Second Batch of Graduate Marine Engineering Course on 22nd February 2007. Chief Guest of the function Mr. Ajoy Chatterjee, Chief Surveyor, Government of India handed over the awards to meritorious cadets.

In his address Mr. Chatterjee said that the sea career was by no means easy, “but it holds great promise of high professional satisfaction when one takes the ship from one point to the other during the course of his job.”He added that he could vouch for this satisfaction having tasted the life both on board and ashore He urged cadets to remain focused on their job at all time.. He stressed that cadets must work hard to improve their ability, work on their attitudes that determine behaviour, and stay motivated to ensure that the quality of output they produced was always excellent.
The cadets presented a cultural programme and enlivened the function. One of the skits produced and acted by the DNS cadets highlighted the transformation of their lives once they were enrolled in this premier institute. Offering his words of appreciation to the cadets who entertained the audience, Mr. Manmohan Singh, Director, SIMS said, “it is important to shape up as a good all round person and it is even more important to strive to be a global citizen by one's deeds while also retaining one's loyalty to one's nation.”
Ms. Shikha Singh, HRD Manager, ESM who graced the function along with the other dignitaries on stage, was ebullient with enthusiasm. Complimenting the students on the landmark achievement they made this day in founding their maritime careers, she said, “I am looking forward to see the blooming of 68 bouquets,” while referring to the 68 pass outs. She said the successful candidates were welcome to make a wonderful career with Executive Ship Management.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Ajoy Chatterjee inspected the guard of honour presented by the cadets and checked the various ultra-modern facilities offered by Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies. The 55-acre campus boasts of world class facilities including the biggest solar power project in Asia. The campus produces a large part of its own electricity and entire hot water requirements by solar power He was particularly impressed with the recently completed auditorium with 350 sitting capacity where the function was held as well as the fast progressing ship-in-campus project which promises to be one of its kind in the entire maritime training field of the world.

SIMS Gearing Up as One of Worlds Best Maritime Institutes

Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies, situated amongst the verdant hills of Lonavla held their passing out ceremony on 22nd February,2007 for their Second Batch of Graduate Marine Engineering Course. Cadet Abhilash Mani and Cadet Himesh K.P won the Gold and Silver Medals respectively for General Proficiency.
The successful batch of 68 cadets would soon be absorbed by Executive Ship Management,Singapore for the second part of their course that would be on board ships. All cadets have secured first class, i.e. more than 60% in the examinations and 15 cadets have secured honours. The one-year pre sea training is comprised of 6 months on-shore training, followed by 6months of on board training on ESM's fleet of ships.
SIMS is conducting two courses, IGNOU DNS course for deck cadets, and GME course for Graduate Mechanical Engineers, two batches per year of each course. So far, all of SIMS cadets, both Deck and Engine have been accommodated in ESM's fleet. 40 deck cadets and 12 GME cadets are presently sailing in ESM operated vessels.
The Institute is certified as ISO 9001 2000 compliant by DNV, Singapore.
The institute’s post-sea campus in Chembur,Mumbai provides the value added courses for sea farers already sailing. Apart from the DNV certification, it also rated top grade by CRISIL – the Indian counterpart of an international rating agency.
