Bids would be received on 15th February, 2007 from pre-qualified bidders of the BOT operators of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), said officials at the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation. All the necessary clearances have been obtained.
The proposed Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) is an ambitious project connecting Sewri to Nhava Sheva. The first phase of the road bridge project with a base cost of Rs.2700 crores will have 6 lanes while the completion cost including interest during construction would be Rs.4000 crore. The total length of the link will be 22 km and will consist of approach roads, viaducts on inter-tidal zone, bridge across deep sea and interchanges.
The MTHL is expected to be a catalyst of development of the city by promoting horizontal growth as against the vertical growth experienced over the past few years. The link will help reduce the problems of congestion and pollution in Mumbai. Apart from the beneficial impact of the MTHL on connectivity, population dispersal and savings to commuters, other project beneficiaries include Mumbai Port Trust, JNPT, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, CIDCO, MMRDA, Navi Mumbai SEZ and various industries in the hinterland.
Construction period including financial closure after award of work would be 5 years.
