REMEMBERING SHRI OM PRAKASH KAPUR-A LIFE WELL LIVED
Shri Om Prakash Kapur hailed as a true friend, philosopher and guide to colleagues in the maritime industry is no more. Friends and colleagues have expressed deep grief over his demise.
Shri Kapur has done yeoman service to the maritime industry. A graduate from Lahore, now Pakistan he pursued LLB and completed it from Delhi in 1952. He began his career with the department of Lighthouse and Lightships in 1954. He was appointed Assistant Shipping Master at DG Shipping in 1971 after clearing the UPSC and got elevated as Shipping Master in 1982. During this time he also served as Director in charge of Seaman Employment Office for a period of 2 years. Shri Kapur retired as Shipping Master at Mumbai in 1989.Post retirement, Shri Kapur was active as Secretary at Fosma. While at Fosma he has been instrumental in taking many initiatives, which has furthered the cause of the maritime community.
Kapur's colleagues describe him as having been an extremely friendly and amiable person. Rich tributes have flowed in describing him as a person of great integrity and humility who left no stone unturned to help any person who needed help. On the professional front Kapur has been hailed as highly competent, meticulous and prompt in taking action.
A well-read person, Shri Kapur kept himself abreast of happenings around him. He also took keen interest in updating himself about the advancement of medical technologies and was a regular reader of reputed medical journals. Shri Kapur was also a devout reader of the Holy Scriptures.
The words “A Life Well Lived” would truly describe the life of Shri Kapur who balanced his career and family life and earned him the reputation of one of the most beloved persons around. A staunch family person he afforded quality time to his entire family. Along with his career and community service, Shri Kapur stressed the importance of family togetherness. He lived in a joint family and was proud of his two sons Capt. Kawal Kapur (who passed away a few years ago) and Naval Kapur; and their wives, Jyoti Kapur and Aarti Kapur. He was a doting grandfather to Karan, Tulika, Parth and Kanishka. His beloved wife was Shanta Kapur who left for her heavenly abode 3 years ago.
Shri Om Prakash Kapur breathed his last at the age of 75 on 28th December after a brief illness.
