C Maheshwar's book 'Container Refrigeration' released in London
Indian Shipping Industry is gaining importance and the technical / management skills of Indian Seafarers are recognized worldwide. With the release of 300 pages definitive guide to the operations, faultfinding and maintenance of 'Container Refrigeration' by Chief Engineer C Maheshwar in London at the Coologistics conference held at IMARESTs city conference centre venue. The book includes 16 key topics, i.e. Basics of Refrigeration, the Refrigeration System and the Flow of Refrigerant through the Components, Containerisation and Container Refrigeration, Various Types of Refrigerated Cargo, Compressors, 6 Expansion Valves, Controllers, Temperature recording Systems in Reefer Containers, Controlled Atmosphere Systems, Humidification Systems, Refrigerants, Maintenance of Reefer Container Machinery, Reefer Cargo Losses, Carriage of Live Cargo Onboard in Reefer Containers, Worldwide Containerised Reefer Cargo Trade and Diagnostics and Trouble-Shooting.

THE MARINE WORLD's representative Siddharth B Gangurde interacted with Mr C Maheshwar during the releasing ceremony to know more about his interests, motivational factors, time management, experience and future plans.
Speaking about the book the author said, “Today, a new-build Panamax containership of 4,600TEU will typically have capacity for 700 reefer plugs, and with a full load will consume 18 tonnes of HFO per day. However, you can't just load a container, plug it in and play like a computer component. Questions on requirements of the content and the power consumption demanded by this are just some of the items that a refrigeration technician must consider. With a growing global refrigerated trade of 50 million tonnes per annum, and with few dedicated reefer ships on order, growth is bound to take place in the available refrigerated capacity on container ships. However, increased reefer cargo claims point to a lack of knowledge by both ship and shore personnel. This book aims to close up the gaps in that knowledge.”
Motivational factors
“After quitting sailing, I joined Career Transcold as a Customer Service Manager, where I worked for two and half years. My interest in reefer containers started from there, apart from my previous few sailing assignments on container vessels. I use to write few technical articles with some leading publications and when I gained confidence I compiled all the articles to write my first book”.
Time Management
“I feel we (average Seafarers) really waste a lot of time. If that time can be utilized in an effective way then that can earn better results. We should utilize those leisure hours in some productive ways. Different Seafarers have their own interest and hobbies. If they utilize their time either during sailing or at shore then they can really create wonders.”
Future Plans
“Writing has always been my passion and I will keep writing on Marine and HR related subjects.”
