Indian Maritime Foundation Organizes a seminar
On Global warming in Pune-
“Global Warming And Climate Change”-
Does India Have An Effective Roadmap For Adaptation And Mitigation?”
The Indian Maritime Foundation, Pune organized a seminar on “Global Warming And Climate Change- Does India has an effective Road Map For Adaptation and Mitigation?” On 13TH February, 2008 at National Film Archives of India Auditorium, Pune.

Often Merchant Naval Ships are portrayed by Main Stream Media as Big Polluters of sea after an accident but the fact is that marine Ships cause least pollution Per Ton of Cargo Moved compared to Other Modes of Transport and it is one of the cleanest and environment friendly mode of Transport.
The Organization of this seminar was a commendable step by Indian Maritime Foundation as it brought a very relevant and urgent Topic to the discussion table and also dispelled some myths about shipping industry. The seminar was attended by dignitaries associated with urgent cause of “Global Warming and Climate Change” disturbing the entire globe. Wallem Ship management, Mumbai was one of the main sponsorers of the Seminar on “Global Warming and Climate Change” and Captain Navin Passey, Managing Director( India), Wallem Ship Management, said,” Wallem, as an Organization, takes Social Responsibility towards Environment very seriously and We take extra effort in running very safe ships so as to Preserve our environment for the coming generations.”
Commodore Rajan Vir (Retd) President, IMF, welcomed the delegates by a Welcome Address.
Ms. Vandana Chavan, former Mayor of Pune and an advocate by profession presided as The Chief Guest and lighted the inaugural lamp along with Capt.Navin Passey of Wallem Ship Management. Ltd.

Professor B.N.Goswami, Director Indian Institute Of Tropical Meteorology, Pune delivered a keynote address on Global Warming and Stability of the Indian Summer Monsoon.
Mr.Peter Neill, Director, World Ocean Observatory New York. Presented a paper on Ocean and Climate Change.
Ms.Vicki Treadell, Deputy High Commissioner, British Deputy High Commission, Mumbai highlighted “The British Position and Cooperation with India on Climate Changes Issues”.
There was discussion and summing up some by Moderator and Chairman- Dr. R.P.Jagdale, DG Science and Technology Park, University of Pune.

In the second half of the seminar, there was screening of The Film: “ The Climate Change: The Untold Story” and it was followed by a series of four short films. These films put the spotlight on some of our climate hotspots.
Dr. Ajay Ojha, Manger, Air Quality Management Cell Environment Education and Research, BVDU, Pune focused on “Global Climate Change Impacts on Indians Biodiversity”.

Discussions and Summing up Moderator was Mr. Peter Neill, director, World Ocean Observatory, New York and he was obviously impressed by the Hard work being put in by the Indian Organizations in creating awareness about this topical issue.

Chief guest Ms.Vandana Chavan, by her thought rendering remarks, concluded the seminar. Commodore Rajan Vir (Retd), President IMF gave the Vote of Thanks.
